During this year, SVP has been pleased to offer help and support to a number of existing and emerging community groups and projects.

Summer Street Area Community Association (SSACA): with funding from the Hitchins Family Trust (via Gloucestershire Community Foundation), we have worked at Summer Crescent Field, the neglected greenspace in the area, and set up a new residents group.  Improvements at the Field were the original focus of this project, but setting up SSACA  has acted as a catalyst throughout the neighbourhood, with the group addressing more general neighbourhood issues such as vandalism and dog fouling.  Both SVP and SSACA were very proud to be awarded a Britain in Bloom Merit award for community involvement in 2008.

Rockness Trust: during 2008, SVP was approached by this community group for support and advice on securing funding to set up an orchard project.  The group were successful with their funding bid and have purchased the land.  Since then, the group has cleared the ground, and planted an orchard and hedge; some of this practical work has also been supported by SVP.

Bournstream Trust: also during 2008, SVP was approached for advice on improving biodiversity by the Bournstream Trust.  Bournstream is a unique play and picnic site for children with special needs or disabilities, and their families, run entirely by volunteers and its hard-working committee.  SVP was able to recommend the creation of a wildflower meadow and planting a hedge to further enhance this haven, both of which have been completed by the trust.
