Soil is pretty amazing stuff. Not only does it support all our food growing, it also stores carbon, helps prevent flooding, and is home to literally billions of tiny organisms that are vital for keeping the earth healthy.
Soil is in a bit of trouble though, with climate change, alterations in rain patterns, and poor land management practices threatening its, and by extension our, health. But there are things that we can all do to help soil out!
Why not start by joining Stroud Valleys Project on Saturday 3 December for our Soil Day Bonanza to find out more about this wonder beneath our feet?
We will have four speakers that will help you learn more about how soil works, and what practical steps you can take to ensure our soil security long into the future.
John Meadley from Pasture for Life will reveal how The Answer Lies in the Soil.
Elaine Shears from Gloucestershire Organic Gardening Group will give her talk on Soil Fertility in an Organic Regime.
Overtown Farm’s very own Martin Whitaker will be showcasing the farm’s journey from conventional farming to organic farming over 30 years.
Emily Howgate of Muck and Magic will present a talk on the preciousness of peat-bogs and give tips to help you go peat-free.
There will also be a host of organisations on hand in the afternoon to answer all your soil and composting questions. They will also be selling wares, so bring along cash if you wish to purchase anything.
So why not come along to Stroud Brewery and get soil savvy with us?
Tickets: £8.00/ person
Tickets are no longer available for purchase online but we still have spaces - tickets will be available on the door before 11am.
This event is accessible to wheelchair users.
