Carers in Nature in Carers' Week
In association with our partners, Stroud Valleys Project are running a special programme of activities designed to give carers a chance to take a break and spend some time in nature.
We are beginning a programme of activities designed to provide carers in the district with an opportunity to have fun in nature, and do something to help the environment. Stroud Valleys Project prides itself on recruiting very caring staff who always provide a supportive and caring experience. Multiple studies have shown that time in nature really can benefit mental and physical well-being and for those with caring responsibilities this can be doubly so.
The events started in Carers' Week (7th–13th June 2021) and then on Wednesdays from 9th June. Carers can join us for a two-hour taster session that will involve a morning or afternoon guided nature exploration followed by some practical conservation activities. Starting out at Capel’s Mill in Stroud, carers may find themselves foraging for the ingredients to make a wild tea, going on a wildflower walk, helping to construct a climate cairn or building a ‘dead hedge’ in a new woodland glade. Carers are welcome to join us for a one-off activity, or they can choose to come along more regularly; either way, we just ask that they telephone us on (01453) 753358 to reserve their place.
Activities are suitable for all ages and abilities, so please do call us if you are a carer who would like to get involved. We can also signpost you to organisations that may be able to provide respite care if this is needed. So, if you are a carer, or you know someone who is, please get in touch!
Carers' Week is an annual awareness campaign that celebrates and recognises the vital contribution of the UK’s unpaid carers – supporting family members and friends who are older, have a disability, mental or physical illness or need extra help as they grow older.
The aim of Carers' Week is to help make caring visible and valued.
