Farewell to Tim

We were saddened to hear of the death earlier this month of Professor Timothy Darvill. Described by Cotswold Archaeology as ‘one of the foremost archaeologists and prehistorians of his time’, Tim was known internationally for his work at Stonehenge.

A former Minchinhampton resident, Tim had a passion for Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, lending his support to a successful call to excavate the Neolithic long barrow near Cirencester. The sessions he kindly led for SVP exploring the archaeology of our area sold out with astonishing speed and were extremely popular.

Tim was a brilliant speaker and was extremely generous with his time, happily sharing his vast expertise and communicating it in an accessible and enjoyable way.

We will miss him, and his walks, very much.
