‘Wood’ you help? Stroud charity requests for land for tree planting

Stroud community and wildlife charity Stroud Valleys Project (SVP) is making an unusual request – and one which only a few people in the town and surrounding areas will be able to help with.

The charity has hundreds of trees to plant before the end of the season… and they need land to plant them on.

SVP CEO Clare Mahdiyone explains, “We still have a few hundred trees to plant as part of our commitment to the Gloucestershire Tree Strategy, which aims to establish the right tree in the right place for the right reason, through both active planting and natural regeneration – with the ultimate vision of 20% tree coverage across the county.

“Our tree planting at Salmon Springs on the road into Stroud from Painswick is going brilliantly thanks to our project officer Stuart and his dedicated team of volunteers… but we are coming close to our limit.

“What we really need now is a large piece of land where we can plant hundreds more trees; land with good soil and a sunny aspect where native woodland can thrive.

“If you are able to donate some land for woodland, it would represent a wonderful legacy that will stand the test of time, and one that will improve life for the people of Stroud and for our wildlife.”

If you have a piece of land that you think might be suitable, please email clare@stroudvalleysproject.org or call 01453 753358.
