Charity calls for land for trees

Have you got a little land to spare?

Would you like to create a legacy for the people of Stroud and the surrounding towns and villages?

Stroud Valleys Project (SVP) staff and volunteers planted over 8,000 trees, and miles of hedgerow last planting season. The charity is gearing up for another season of planting from December until March… but they need somewhere to plant them.

“Even a hectare would make a difference,” explains SVP’s CEO Clare Mahdiyone. “Trees and hedgerow do so much hard graft, for us and for our landscape.

“They provide places for wildlife to live, countering habitat loss and boosting biodiversity; they shore up the ground to prevent soil erosion and reduce flooding; they capture carbon to reduce localised pollution and combat climate change.... and of course, they’re a beautiful sight for people to gaze upon for decades and even centuries.

“We’d love to hear from anyone who has a stretch of land within the district on which we can plant trees. We’ll come along with our cheerful and energetic volunteers, and transform your patch into a copse, a wood, or even a forest, with lovingly selected trees and plants that are perfect for the setting and for wildlife.”
